You know that feeling of being "inspired"? That moment when you see or hear or experience something that you just seem to breathe in and it starts stirring things up inside of you, knocking on doors and awakening your soul... That's how I felt the first time I walked into one of my favorite places I've ever visited. Hatch Show Print Shop in Nashville, TN has been a working letterpress print shop since 1879. Located in the Country Music Hall of Fame, tours of the shop are offered daily at 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Although I have yet to have the opportunity to take the tour myself and actually experience the magic of the shop up close, all it takes is pressing my nose against the window and staring into the beautifully chaotic assortment of paper, ink, letters, old scraps, and stacks of hot-off-the-press posters covering every square inch of counter space, amongst all of the other machinery and tools it requires to run such an operation, for that wave of inspiration to fill me. Some of my favorite projects that I've worked on so far have been event posters. Although my design and printing methods are significantly different that used at the famous Hatch Show Print Shop, I always find myself reaching towards for that vital artistic force that makes your posters stand out from the rest, an area in which the Print Shop has perfected it's craft. I had a lot of fun creating these TTBC Dirt Wars & Mad Dog race event posters and look forward to future opportunities to design posters for other big events be it music/social events or for creative marketing campaigns.
