Since a young age, I've have always gravitated towards anything creative and expressive: dance, photography, drawing, painting, and design to name a few. To be successful at any of these things requires putting yourself into the project, which is why every assignment that comes my way feels so personal to me. Combine these creative skills with the readiness to problem solve, a healthy hunger for a challenge, an entrepreneurial spirit and a push from the Holy Spirit... and WAH-LAH, a business owner was born.
I graduated from Montgomery High School in 2008 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where I graduated with honors.
After graduating I started working full time as a nanny for World Champion MotoGP Racer, Colin Edwards which is what started my appreciation for everything two-wheels. A lot of the work that you'll find me doing is for businesses in the Moto Industry which are some of my very favorite projects - including projects for the Colin Edwards' Texas Tornado Bootcamp.
After his retirement I went on to find a job at a graphic design & print company in The Woodlands, Texas with Graphic Design FX & Link Local Magazine, owned by the Kalousek brothers! I owe these guys so much credit for shaping me into the graphic designer that I am today. I loved every minute of what I did for them and am so grateful for the opportunity that they gave me.
Eventually life would pull me to the town that I now call home, Georgetown, Texas. I had always had this innate desire to be my own boss and to create some kind of career/lifestyle balance that could be used to make a difference in my community. I LOVED graphic design and everything that went into it. I had created a logo and tons of mock-up marketing material for my imaginary business. I knew that "Deckle Edge" would be the name, I created an email address just for fun, chose a bible verse that would be intertwined with my mission statement: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 and I started to play around with what the branding might look like. As time went on the seed that God had planted in my heart for Deckle Edge Design grew and grew. But, could I really go out on my own and make enough money to survive and pay my bills? Is now the right time for me to take this leap of faith? I prayed, "Lord, give me the wisdom to know what your will is for me. Are you really calling me to start this business or is this just senseless wishful thinking... I need some direction." That day, literally an hour after I prayed that prayer, I was listening to a sermon in the background of my work day (as I always do - podcasts, music, shows... there's always something playing) when the pastor drove his point home using guess what Bible verse?.... That's right. Ephesians 2:10. I knew at that moment, that up to that point, God had been preparing and equipping me in all the ways that I needed so that I could feel confident stepping into this calling. The next day Deckle Edge Design & Marketing went from being a dream to a reality.
Now, almost four years later, Deckle Edge Design & Marketing has served over 230 businesses and has designed everything from logos, to menus, to billboards and entire brands from start to finish that are thriving as we speak!
